TOP 5: Assassin's Creed Allies

[WARNING: THE FOLLOWING POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS TO ANY AND ALL ASSASSIN'S CREED GAMES TO DATE]

Number Five: Bartolomeo d'Alviano
First Appearance: Assassin's Creed 2

Bartolomeo is first introduced in Assassin's Creed 2 as a mercenary captain that Ezio Auditore must seek help from to stir up trouble in the Castello district in order to assassinate the Templar Silvio Barbagio. While many of the characters in the game are loud Italian people, Bartolomeo takes this to an entirely new level. Bartolomeo is shown to have a hot head and a loud mouth, but despite this, he is a great ally for Ezio. In addition, he is also one of the funniest allies in the series, constantly worrying about the safety of his sword, which he has named "Bianca" and frequently lying about the status of his war efforts in order to protect his ego. Despite all this, Bartolomeo is shown to be a loyal ally and an honorable man, willing to fight for the Assassin's order and caring for all his mercenaries and his wife Pantasilea.

Number Four: Rebecca Crane
First Appearance: Assassin's Creed 2

Rebecca Crane is a modern day assassin introduced at the very beginning of Assassin's Creed 2. She is an expert on technology and designs the Animus 2.0, which she refers to as "Baby," in order for Desmond to relive the memories of his ancestor Ezio Auditore. Rebecca is easily the most resourceful and important member of Desmond's small group of modern day assassins. She once saved her associate, Shaun Hasting, from being killed by Abstergo for leaking information on them. While she prefers to stay out of the action, as displayed in Brotherhood when she explains she entered the Animus once and got bored, she is always planning ahead, even to the point where she contacted William Miles after Desmond passed out in the Temple of Juno. Rebecca puts duty above all else, even missing her friend Lucy's funeral to keep an eye on the comatose Desmond while his father searched for the Grand Temple.

Number Three: Niccolo Machiavelli
First Appearance: Assassin's Creed 2

Niccolo Machiavelli is no stranger to many who have studied history. In the Assassin's Creed Universe, Machiavelli is allied with the Assassin's Order, and it is even hinted throughout Assassin's Creed 2 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood that he may be their leader. Despite this, other assassins, such as La Volpe, constantly believe that Machiavelli is betraying them to the Templars. Ezio always remains loyal to Machiavelli, believing he has no ill intentions for their order. While Machiavelli does not do much in the field, he does give great advice to Ezio. Unfortunately, Ezio doesn't take some of his advice, which results in the death of his uncle Mario Auditore. Eventually, Machiavelli names Ezio the Mentor of the Assassin's Order and tells him he will write a book about him one day, ironically enough.

Number Two: Malik Al-Sayf
First Appearance: Assassin's Creed

Malik is a member of the Musayaf Assassin's Order in the Holy Land who serves under Al Mualim with his fellow assassin Altair. At the very beginning of the game, Malik, his brother, and Altair are tasked with retrieving the Ark of the Covenant in the Temple of Jerusalem. Due to Altair's arrogance, Malik's brother is killed by the Templars and Malik loses his arm, but he is able to retrieve the Templar's treasure: the Apple of Eden. Malik is bitter toward Altair for much of the game, serving as protagonist's guide in Jerusalem. As Altair begins to realize his mistakes, Malik too, begins to realize his. Malik eventually forgives Altair and names him brother. Near the end of the game, when Al Mualim has betrayed the Assassin's Order and uses the Piece of Eden to control most of the Assassins, Malik remains as one of the few who do not fall under his spell, and fights alongside Altair to save the Holy Land. In Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Altair reveals that Malik died trying to oppose Abbas, another corrupt assassin, showing that Malik was a true ally of the Assassin's Order, even giving his life to keep the Creed.

Number One: Leonardo da Vinci
First Appearance: Assassin's Creed 2

Leonardo da Vinci, the famous artist and inventor of Renaissance Italy, appears as a great ally in both Assassin's Creed 2 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. He is introduced to a young Ezio by his mother, Maria Auditore, who has become friends with da Vinci. After Ezio finds the codex of Altair, and is unable to decode it, he brings it to Leonardo, who not only is able to decipher the pages, but also create many of the devices that are outlined in them. Leonardo serves as the primary "gadget-expert" from this point on, creating devices for Ezio such as smoke bombs, pistols, and even his famous flying machine. Even in Brotherhood, when da Vinci is captured by Cesare Borgia and forced to create terrible war machines for him, he still contacts Ezio with information in order to help him destroy these machines. Leonardo is easily the greatest ally to the Assassin's Order across the games.
