TOP 10: Super Smash Bros. 4 Roster Wishes

For those of you who don't know, at last year's E3, Nintendo announced that Sakurai and Sora Ltd will be developing the next installment of the Super Smash Bros. Franchise for both Wii U and 3DS. Namco-Bandai was recently announced to be helping develop the game. The following are my top ten most wanted characters in the next installment. Some of them are very likely to appear while others have absolutely 0% chance, but this is all for fun so let's begin.

Number Ten: Dark Samus
First Appearance: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (GCN)

Let me first just say before I go on to talk about why I think Dark Samus would make a great character, I personally believe the Brawl roster lacked enough female representation and villain representation, keep that in mind when reading this article. That being said, Metroid is one of Nintendo's best franchises and yet it STILL only has one rep (two I guess if you count Zero Suit Samus as her own character) yet franchises such as Earthbound and Fire Emblem have more than one rep. I personally believe the Metroid series needs another rep besides Samus, and while Ridley would be a great rep, I am one of those who believe he would be too big to be a character, so I have gone with Dark Samus. Now, many people would probably believe that Dark Samus would be a complete clone of Samus, but that might not be the case! They could completely base Dark Samus' move set on Phazon, taking many of the different Phazon attacks from Metroid Prime 3 and incorporating them into Dark Samus. In addition, Dark Samus would have a great Final Smash: becoming the Metroid Prime. So in conclusion, Dark Samus would make a great rep because she represents females, villains, and a series who is lacking enough representation.

Number Nine: Animal Crosser
First Appearance: Animal Crossing (GCN)

Among the many Nintendo series that already have representation in the Smash Bros. Franchise, one of the bigger franchises that has both a stage and an assist trophy, yet no playable character is Animal Crossing. Now, my first thought for a rep from this franchise was Tom Nook, but after giving it thought, I can't see how they could make that work. On the other hand, the generic Animal Crosser from the game would have a great moveset, making use of their shovel, bug net, fishing rod, sling shot, and axe as possible attacks. This series is too great to lack a rep in the franchise, and if they could make a moveset for a character like R.O.B., I'm sure they could come up with something to make the Animal Crosser work.

Number Eight: King K. Rool
First Appearance: Donkey Kong Country (SNES)

As I mentioned previously, one thing I want to see in the next Smash Bros. game is more villain reps. Personally, I feel it was a BIG mistake for them not to include King K. Rool in Brawl, and I hope they fix this mistake in the next installment. Not only is King K. Rool the persistent baddy in one of Nintendo's most well-known franchises, Donkey Kong, but he is also easily recognizable by most hardcore fans, and would have great response. He would likely be on the heavier side with other villains, such as Bowser and King Dedede, and he would fit right into the universe. It would be great to see another giant lizard on the field other than the King of Koopas.

Number Seven: Ray Mk II
First Appearance: Custom Robo (GCN)

Much like Animal Crossing, Custom Robo is a Nintendo series that does not have representation in the Super Smash Bros. Franchise as of yet. The Ray Mk III appeared as an assist trophy in Brawl, and I believe that for the next game, it should be bumped up to a playable character. There are ENDLESS possibities for the moveset, for as the title implies, the robots in the game were customizable, meaning the developers could literally go crazy with the moveset. Whichever version of the Ray robot that the developers would choose the represent the franchise would be fine, but I'm sure they would make it fit very well into the roster and be one of the most interesting new characters for players to try.

Number Six: Paper Mario
First Appearance: Paper Mario (N64)

This is a character I am surprised was not included in Brawl. Seeing as Nintendo loves to milk the Super Mario Franchise, it would have seemed likely that this character would have appeared. Unlike the standard Mario character, Paper Mario's moves would be based on his RPG style of play, which could consist of his hammer, pixls, or even partners from the various games. There are so many possibilities for Paper Mario, much like Ray, because he has had so many different moves throughout his three, and soon to be four, games.

Number Five: Banjo & Kazooie
First Appearance: Banjo-Kazooie (N64)

Now everyone who is a Nintendo fan should recognize the face of this bear and bird. Banjo-Kazooie was one of the most successful Nintendo 64 games developed by Rareware. Unfortunately, Rareware was bought out by Microsoft during the Gamecube era, so Banjo has not appeared on a Nintendo console since, but has had some representation on the Gameboy Advance with Banjo Pilot. Now, I know that Banjo has virtually no chance of showing up in the game, but there have been rumors surfacing of Microsoft coming to a deal with Nintendo to allow Rare to develop a new Banjo-Kazooie game on the Nintendo 3DS, as the handheld market does not compete with Microsoft's consoles. If the rumor were true, perhaps there would be some hope of Banjo & Kazooie appearing in the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. 4, which I'm sure would please many fans of the old duo.

Number Four: Bowser Jr.
First Appearance: Super Mario Sunshine (GCN)

There has been alot of debate on forums on who the fifth Super Mario series rep in the next Super Smash Bros. should be. While many want Waluigi, I personally feel the best candidate is Bowser Jr. For one, Bowser Jr. is probably my favorite character in the Super Mario universe, next to Luigi. The other reason is that Bowser Jr. has grown in popularity and significance in the Super Mario universe since his introduction, almost becoming Bowser's "Luigi," not to mention that Bowser Jr. would have an entirely unique moveset through the use of his paintbrush. Again, Bowser Jr. fills the role of villain representation in this game and I believe would serve as a great alternative to players who wish to play a character similar to Bowser but prefer to use lighter characters.

Number Three: Skull Kid
First Appearance: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

Much like with the Super Mario series, there has been much discussion on message boards about a fifth rep in the Legend of Zelda series. There have been various suggestions from people like Midna to others such as Ghirahim or Demise. Personally, I have to agree with one of the most popular requests: Skull Kid. The Skull Kid was first introduced in Ocarina of Time, but is more commonly associated with Majora's Mask where he was the primary antagonist. This character would fill my villain rep requirement mentioned previously, but also have an entirely unique moveset that characters such as Demise or Midna might not have. Finally, probably one of the best things about this character would be his possible Final Smash. I mean, who wouldn't want to see the moon crash into the field?

Number Two: Sora
First Appearance: Kingdom Hearts (PS2)

Now this is another farfetched character on my wishlist. While Sora and the Kingdom Hearts franchise did not originate on Nintendo systems, I still believe he would be a great addition to the series. I came across this idea for Sora to be in the game when thinking of who potential third parties would allow into the game, and when thinking of Square Enix, I could only think of Sora, as the Final Fantasy franchise isn't well represented on Nintendo consoles. The thing with the Kingdom Hearts series is that it has just as many entries on Nintendo systems as it does on Playstation ones, especially with the most recent one being released on the 3DS and rumors about Kingdom Hearts 3 being released on both PS3 and Wii U. The only problem, of course, is that Disney might not want one of their characters in a fighting game, but still, Sora would be a great character to add to the brawler.

Number One: Krystal
First Appearance: Star Fox Adventures (GCN)

Krystal. I still do not know why Sakurai did not put her into Brawl and hold an incredibly harsh grudge on him for doing so. The main reason for this is that Sakurai chose to give the Star Fox series three reps, and ALL OF THOSE REPS PLAYED THE SAME. Krystal is the one character from the series who has the potential to play differently, by incorporating her staff from Adventures. Not only that, but she is a female character, which Brawl was severely lacking and her moveset would be great. Krystal is my most wanted character for Super Smash Bros. 4, and if Sakurai robs me of playing as her once again, I will be extremely disappointed.
