ARTICLE: What Each Newcomer Says About Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS

Hey everyone. Today I have an analytical article that will cover exactly what each newcomer that has been revealed for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS says about the game's development and character selections. Of course, all of this is speculation, however, it could be worth a good read.

What Mega Man Says

1. Third-parties are still a thing
Perhaps most obviously, Mega Man's inclusion in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS tells us that the game's director, Masahiro Sakurai, is still willing to include new third-party characters. This could lead to the inclusion of other third party characters such as Bayonetta or Pac-Man.

2. Icons are relevant
Mega Man's inclusion also tells us that Mr. Sakurai is not only aware of gaming icons, but is willing to implement them into the game. This could indicate the inclusion of other iconic characters, such as the extremely iconic veteran Solid Snake.

3. The past is not forgotten
Mega Man's inclusion also shows that Mr. Sakurai has not forgotten about the popularity of characters or franchises from the past, and shows he has no problem reviving certain characters or franchises for this game. This could lead to the inclusion of older or forgotten characters such as Takamaru.

What Villager Says

1. Past statements mean nothing
In an interview around the time of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mr. Sakurai had stated that the Villager would not be a good fighter, as he believed him to be "too peaceful." The fact that the Villager has been included into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS shows that Mr. Sakurai's mind on certain matters can change, and that his past statements may not mean what they previously did. This makes way for characters such as Ridley, whom Mr. Sakurai had previously stated would be difficult to implement because of his size.

2. Non-distinct characters can still be fighters
There is no one clear Villager in the Animal Crossing series due to its heavy focus on customization. Regardless, the Villager was included. This means that even customizable characters could find a standard form to be represented in this game, such as Miis or the Avatar from Fire Emblem: Awakening.

What Wii Fit Trainer Says

1. All Nintendo franchises are important
The inclusion of the Wii Fit Trainer shows how Mr. Sakurai acknowledges that all Nintendo franchises are important, even if their franchises are smaller or their characters are not traditionally seen as fighters. This makes way for characters from smaller Nintendo franchises such as Golden Sun or Custom Robo.

2. There are still surprises
Mr. Sakurai stated that one of the main reasons he chose to include the Wii Fit Trainer as a fighter was because nobody would have ever guessed her inclusion. This shows that Mr. Sakurai is not afraid of throwing curveballs into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS as he did in the past with the inclusion of Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B.

What Rosalina Says

1. Similar appearances do not mean similar movesets
A common belief among Super Smash Bros. fans was that if Rosalina were included into the game, she would simply be a Peach clone. However, Mr. Sakurai has proven through her inclusion that just because two characters have similar body structures or appearances, does not mean they have to be clones. This can potentially mean the inclusion of characters such as Krystal or Dark Samus without copying the exact abilities of other fighters.

2. Nobody is too new
Rosalina is a relatively new character in the Nintendo universe with very few appearances. Despite this, she was able to make it as the fifth representative in Nintendo's biggest franchise. This shows how Mr. Sakurai does not care how new a character is and that their impact and role in the series matters more. This could potentially mean the inclusion of newer Nintendo characters such as Chrom or Shulk.

3. Popularity and requests are being heard
Rosalina has had a faster growing popularity than any character introduced into the Super Mario series since Yoshi. She was also requested quite a bit for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS. This proves that Mr. Sakurai is listening to the fans, both through the popularity of characters and requests from fans. This could lead to the inclusion of popular characters such as Mewtwo or highly requested characters such as King. K Rool and Palutena.

Whatever Mr. Sakurai decides to do with the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS roster, I hope he makes the right decisions. There is so much potential that is evident through these four newcomers that I hope he succeeds to meet.
