In the latest issue of the Japanese Magazine Corocoro, a new type of Pokemon were revealed that will be included in this year's upcoming releases: Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.
These Pokemon are known as "Mega Pokemon" and will undergo a process known as "Mega-Evolution."

Some reports say that this evolution will not be a permanent transformation, but may occur during battle. While this is not confirmed, the mention of a "Mega-Stone" being the key to unlocking this mysterious new evolution has been stated.

Some of these Pokemon change abilities and stats when they turn into their Mega-Form, while others actually change type completely. One of these cases is MegaAmpharos who will become Electric/Dragon upon transformation.

The current confirmed Pokemon who have Mega-Evolutions are Mewtwo, Absol, Ampharos, Blaziken, Mawile and Lucario.

Mawile, who was previously introduced in Generation III as a Steel-type Pokemon will now be getting Fairy-type added. MegaMawile will also maintain this Steel/Fairy type.

This addition of "Mega" Pokemon opens up a whole new area of possibilities for the game. We here at LifesAHammer are personally hoping for the addition of MegaCharizard, MegaGyarados, MegaDragonite, MegaHeracross, and MegaRaichu.
