March 2013 Review Scores

Tomb Raider (X360/PS3)
Score By: Giuliano V

Gameplay: 9.0
Extremely well designed combat, fun to play with the bow, lots of different mechanics spread out across the entire game, climbing is smooth. Multiplayer is not very appealing.

Story: 8.5
A well thought out and interesting origin story, uses historical figures and Chinese mythos very well, slightly far-fetched

Sound: 8.5
Lara's voice actress expresses the perfect tone and emotion of the character, delivers lines well. There is also a very good variety of voice actors. Music is very well done and matches the overall tone of the game.

Presentation: 9.0
Graphics are some of the best in the generation, environments are beautiful and realistic, character designs are well done. Roughly 12 hours of gameplay, which is quite a lot for this type of game.

Lasting Appeal: 7.0
Good amount of tombs, but they are quite short. Many collectables but not much incentive to actually collect them as multiplayer achievements/trophies keep from getting a perfect gamerscore/platinum trophy. Extremely little replay value.

Final Verdict: 8.3/10
If you are a fan of the Tomb Raider series, this is definitely a worthy reboot and a must buy. For anyone else, I highly recommend it, although the current $60 price tag is quite high for the amount of content in the game and I recommend waiting for a price drop.

 Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
Score By: Matteo C, Gino C, Giuliano V

Gameplay: 9.0, 8.0, 9.0
Matteo: Improves elements from the first game, easy to control, dark light adds an extra questing aspect to the game, vacuum upgrades add to the game.
Gino: Good handheld adaptation, but don't believe it improves on the first, missing the second joystick, dark light good addition but missing the fire/water mechanic.
Giuliano: Fun boss battles, very easy to pick up, probably one of the most accessible titles gameplay wise on the system.

Story: 9.0, 7.5, 7.5
Matteo: Very good story for a Mario game, liked what they did with E. Gadd, very humorous and memorable returning final boss from the first game.
Gino: Very simple story but wasn't a major driving force for the game.
Giuliano: Some good comedy and nods the original game, very familiar story as Mario games usually have but nothing too amazing.

Sound: 10, 8.0, 8.5
Matteo: Music at par with the first game, character voices were better, sound really completes the game.
Gino: E. Gadd always has the same looped sound effect every time he talks, each mansion was a good remix of the original music, E. Gadd's lab music paid a good nod to the original.
Giuliano: Music very familiar and nostalgic.

Presentation: 8.5, 7.5, 9.0
Matteo: Less of a variety of ghosts, Environments detailed, each Mansion had it's own gimmick, 3D effect worked very well with the game, not the best looking 3DS game but gameplay makes up for it.
Gino: Tone wasn't as creepy as the first, ghosts too cute, five different mansions good but mission system scattered the game too much.
Giuliano: E. Gadd calling you all the time is annoying, variety in mansions works well and humor is fantastic, has the charm of a typical Mario title. Last mansion alone is so well designed that it makes this entire game worthwhile.

Lasting Appeal: 9.0, 8.0, 9.0
Matteo: A lot to do within the game. Multiplayer is fun but not gonna last too long.
Gino: No replay value for main game but multiplayer is fun.
Giuliano: Lots of collectibles and incentive to replay missions, ScareScraper multiplayer mode is insanely fun and appealing, fun enough game to replay, roughly 15 hours to beat the game.

Final Verdict: 8.8/10
Recommended for any Mario fans or people who own a 3DS, but not a system seller. Don't wait for a price drop because it won't happen and it is definitely worth the $40 price tag.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm (PC)
Score By: Riley D.

Gameplay: 10
Is an improvement to the already quintessential RTS game, adds more balance through more units and updated abilities

Story: 7.5
Generally entertaining but filled with cliches, not as strong as the stories of the previous Starcrafts

Sound: 8.5
Generally the same sound as StarCraft II, voice acting was very well done

Presentation: 9.0
Graphics very good, new units very interesting and useful, revision to the multiplayer components made it both more accessible and more rewarding

Lasting Appeal: 9.0
Solid campaign featuring plenty of content with achievements adding to replayability, multiplayer thrilling as ever and offers endless entertainment, campaign is roughly 15 hours

Final Verdict: 8.8/10
If you are a fan of StarCraft this expansion is a must. If you are a fan of general RTS games, this game is greatly recommended. For the amount of content, the $40 price tag is a relatively small hit compared to the fun you will have with this game.
