Super Smash Bros. 4 Predictions: Newcomers (New Series)

Here is our first of the Newcomers sections. In this article, we will show you newcomers we believe will be present that are from series that have no current playable representative. We will also provide short reasons for why we believe they could be included on the final roster.

Newcomer: Paper Mario
Series: Paper Mario
Probability: 58%

Reason: Paper Mario is a very distinguished character from the regular, mainstream Mario. Paper Mario has great potential to have a completely unique moveset that could include his various partners and weapons throughout his four games. Also, the Paper Mario series is very popular in North America, Europe and Japan which would mean Paper Mario would be an easily recognized and popular character to include.

Newcomer: Little Mac
Series: Punch Out!!
Probability: 34.4%

Reason: Sakurai has stated that he would like to bring back "old Nintendo characters" for this installment in the Super Smash Bros. franchise. Although Little Mac has been featured on the new Punch Out!! for Wii, he was primarily a retro character and would fit this criteria perfectly. He would also have potential to have a unique moveset and Punch Out!! is also a Nintendo franchise that represents Western video gaming from previous eras.

Newcomer: Balloon Fighter
Series: Balloon Fighter
Probability: 10%

Reason: Just like with Little Mac, Balloon Fighter is a retro fighter which could increase his probability of being included. Balloon Fighter would also be the "WTF" character on the roster introduced in each game (Jigglypuff, Game & Watch, and R.O.B.). This character could have a completely unique moveset and the inclusion of the "Balloon Fighter" attraction in Nintendo Land shows that Nintendo has some interest in possibly returning to this character in the future.

Newcomer: Takamaru
Series: Takamaru
Probability: 21%

Reason: As stated with Balloon Fighter and Little Mac, Takamaru is also a retro Nintendo character, although he never saw release outside of Japan until his attraction in the recently released "Nintendo Land." Just like with Fire Emblem, it is possible Nintendo seeks to give Takamaru some attention in the West, as he is primarily a Japanese character, which could lead to him being included on the roster of the next Super Smash Bros.

Newcomer: Mii
Series: Miiverse
Probability: 60.2%

Reason: In addition to wanting to add "old characters," Sakurai has also stated he wants to add some form of customization into the Super Smash Bros. series. What better way to do this than with the Mii as a character? The Mii could either have its own unique moveset and it's size and face would be determined by which Mii you select or Miis can imitate another character's moveset by choice. We really don't believe that Nintendo would skip out on including its new creation in the next Smash Bros.

Newcomer: Isaac
Series: Golden Sun
Probability: 37%

Reason: Golden Sun is one of Nintendo's major franchises from the GBA era. Golden Sun was extremely popular in both Japan and North America. That being said, it would seem silly for Nintendo to not include the protagonist Isaac as a playable character, especially when he has potential for such an original moveset.

Newcomer: Animal Crosser
Series: Animal Crossing
Probability: 33%

Reason: Animal Crossing has grown to be one of Nintendo's biggest franchises since it's first worldwide release on the Gamecube. It is extremely popular in all regions of the world, especially Europe and Japan. If they can turn characters like R.O.B., Princess Peach and Captain Falcon into suitable fighters, I don't see why they can't come up with something for the Animal Crosser.
