TOP 10: Regular Pokemon

Hi there guys, tonight I'm doing a special two-part "Top 10" segment as part of Nintendo/Playstation month. The first part is this article, where I will only include regular pokemon and the second part will be legendary pokemon only, coming during the day at some point.

Number 10: Weavile
Generation: IV
Selected By: Giuliano V.

Weavile is the evolved form of Sneasel introduced in the fourth generation. The reason Weavile was chosen for this list is because of both it's design and speed stat. Weavile is arguably the fastest Pokemon out there, and when it is equipped with moves like ice beam and dark pulse, it can be quite menacing. Also, Weavile is one of the few fourth generation evolutions of a previous generation's Pokemon to actually have a design that was actually pretty good.

Number 9: Heracross
Generation: II
Selected By: Matteo C.

Heracross is basically the best bug Pokemon in the game, as well as one of the best Pokemon in general. His horn attack can be pretty deadly as he has a high attack stat and his design is quite awesome. Also, Heracross is one of the only Pokemon who has no evolution, yet is still able to hold its own against third evolution Pokemon. This Pokemon would not be a mistake to have on your team.

Number 8: Typhlosion
Generation: II
Selected By: Justin D.

Typhlosion is the final evolution of the fire starter of generation two: Cyndaquil. Typhlosion was chosen because he is the only pure fire starter, and is easily one of the best of them. Typhlosion's chain of evolution introduced one of the best fire moves in the game: flame wheel, and is also probably the best choice of the three starters of that generation.

Number 7: Grovyle
Generation: III
Selected By: Matteo C.

Grovyle is the second evolution of the grass starter of generation three: Treecko. Basically, other than maybe Bulbasaur, Treecko is the only good grass starter, and probably the best starter of his generation. The reason Grovyle was chosen over the final evolution, Sceptile, is because the signature move of the Treecko family: leaf blade, is learned while a Grovyle. Also, Grovyle played a huge role in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, which makes him a much more memorable Pokemon.

Number 6: Gyarados
Generation: I
Selected By: Giuliano V.

I think it is pretty obvious why Gyarados was chosen for this list. Gyarados is literally one of the most insanely good Pokemon in the game, and also one of the best designed. The blue sea monster is owned by most of the powerful trainers, such as Lance, and also is ridiculously hard to beat unless you have an electric Pokemon on hand.

Number 5: Alakazam
Generation: I
Selected By: Justin D.

Alakazam, the final evolution of Abra, comes in at number five. Alakazam was one of the first psychic Pokemon to be introduced, and is still the best of them. Whenever Psychic Pokemon even come to mind, all I can think of is Alakazam. He has extremely high speed and special attack stats, making it easy for him to wipe out many Pokemon, especially because he can learn moves of almost any type.

Number 4: Lucario
Generation: IV
Selected By: Unanimous

All three of us agreed that Lucario deserved to be on this list. Lucario is known as the Pokemon who was the first non-legendary Pokemon to get his own movie. He was also the first Pokemon to introduce Aura Sphere, the first ever special fighting move. In addition, Lucario also appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl representing the Pokemon franchise. Perhaps we like him because of overexposure, but Lucario is still an awesome Pokemon.

Number 3: Gengar
Generation: I
Selected By: Giuliano V.

This is personally my favorite Pokemon. Gengar is the only Ghost Pokemon to appear in Generation I, and as Ghost is my favorite type, Gengar has been my favorite Pokemon from day 1. Gengar can be an extremely powerful Pokemon in many ways. Some take the route and make Gengar take on Pokemon by putting them to sleep, while others take the direct approach by teaching it Psychic and Shadow Ball. Gengar also has a great design and I just love this Pokemon to death.

Number 2: Charizard
Generation: I
Selected By: Matteo C.

Charizard should come as no surprise to anyone, as he is easily the most iconic starter in Pokemon history. Along with having the best design of any starter, Charizard is also the only dual-type fire starter to not have fighting as the opposite type. Charizard's design as a dragon really makes him lovable by fans, whom had to deal with the terrible design of Dragonite in generation 1. Charizard is, and will always remain, the best starter of all time (along with Blastoise).

Number 1: Eevee
Generation: I
Selected By: Justin D.

Weren't expecting this one, eh? Were expecting Pikachu, right? Well sorry, we believe Pikachu is overrated and the true star of the Pokemon series is none other than Eevee. Eevee is the Pokemon with the MOST possible evolutions, and each of those evolutions has a different type. There is a reason Eevee is the most common starter in non-main Pokemon games, because it is the most balanced Pokemon to start with, giving you so many possible routes. Personally, I have done a playthrough with nothing but Eevees and Eeveelutions and it was fantastic. Step aside Pikachu, Eevee deserves some more recognition.

Honourable Mentions:

Blastoise- Generation I
Zoroark- Generation V
Blaziken- Generation III
